The Town of Bernalillo is located at the northwest slope of the Sandia Mountains and runs along the banks of the Rio Grande River just 15 miles from Albuquerque. This community is the historical center of the State of New Mexico with occupation reaching back almost a thousand years. Since the 1600's, Bernalillo has progressed from haciendas placed along the river to a commercial center of trade among the pueblos and the Mexican settlers in the 1800's. The Town of Bernalillo remains a retail trade and service center for this part of the Rio Grande basin. The biggest asset to this community is that it is not to far from a large city, not to far from a Jemez Mountain get a way, and is flanked by Indian Pueblos. The three Indian Casinos are within a ten mile radius of Bernalillo are: Sandia, Santa Ana, and San Felipe. Both Sandia Pueblo and Santa Ana Pueblo have opened resort properties within the past few years, as well. These casinos and resorts provide quite a bit of employment for Bernalillo residents. Bernalillo real estate offers quick access to outdoor recreation and amazing views of the Sandia Mountians.
The Town of Bernalillo is also home to The New Mexico Wine Festival every year.
