The Village of Corrales is a small, treasured oasis located within a large, fast-growing metropolitan area. The village is bordered by the Rio Grande on the east, and by the Sandia Indian Reservation across the river. To the south, is the City of Albuquerque; and the City of Rio Rancho is to the west and north. Corrales, which houses about 7,300 residents, aggressively strives to retain a rural lifestyle. Culturally rich, Corrales is home to many artists, art galleries, wineries, and amazing local restaurants. The old
Corrales acequia, or irrigation ditch, was dug in the early 18th century, land was divided between heirs in the
Spanish tradition into long, narrow ribbons to provide equal access to water
in the irrigation ditch. These strips, stretched about seventeen
or eighteen miles to the west and through the generations have become more narrower
and today the long east/west fields and roads in the village
are the legacy of the importance of water in the valley. Most of the farmers in Corrales grow grapes, apples, and livestock, and is distinguished by its green pastures and orchards, as well as the sounds and scents of roosters, cows, horses and sheep. Corrales is the community that allows you to step out of the urban and into the quiet. Corrales New Mexico real estate offers open views and sprawling acrerage close to the Rio Grande river and provides the residents the peaceful rual village living.
